Careers Hubs are a central part of the government’s Careers Strategy and Statutory Guidance for School Leaders. The aim is to help all secondary schools and colleges implement high quality careers guidance to help young people make more informed decisions around their future choices.
Our role is to link secondary schools and colleges in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly to local employers and help them deliver high quality careers support for students by:
Our team of Enterprise Coordinators work across Cornwall and Isles of Scilly to join the dots between business and education.
The team match an Enterprise Adviser (EA) with one of our 40 secondary schools or colleges, to support a careers leader with the implementation of the eight Gatsby Benchmarks.
The EA and Careers Leader work together to create a high quality careers plan, to increase employer engagement, embed careers into the curriculum and effectively informs students of their options.
Enterprise Advisers are high calibre business volunteers from local businesses who use their knowledge to support their matched school / college to develop an effective careers plan and to create opportunities with their business contacts in the area.
Enterprise Coordinators are trained professionals who work with clusters of schools and colleges to build careers plans and make connections with local business volunteers, known as Enterprise Advisers.
The Gatsby Benchmarks are a framework of 8 guidelines that define define world-class career guidance and were developed on behalf of the Gatsby Foundation by Sir John Holman as part of an international study.
Sir John Holman visited six international locations, analysed good practice in English schools and carried out a comprehensive review of current literature. He then wrote the The Good Career Guidance Report which identifies the set of eight benchmarks that schools can use as a framework for improving their careers provision. These benchmarks have been well received by schools, government and a wide range of stakeholders.
