Callington Community School has used surveys to find out the views of its students, parents, teachers and local employers for a number of years. There also has been some qualitative research completed by Jonathon Plunkett, Callington’s Careers Leader, through one-to-one discussions and small focus groups.
Callington Community School has used surveys to find out the views of its students, parents, teachers and local employers for a number of years.
Jonathon worked with Susan Walton, the school’s Enterprise Adviser to complete some in-depth ‘Student Voice’ work with the majority of year groups. Susan is an HR specialist, who runs a consultancy business.
Eight sessions of 8 – 10 pupils were held over three mornings in June 2018. The meetings were mainly kept to year groups with the occasional mixed group.
The sessions were well planned and students were asked about their knowledge about their career paths and the level of career related information they have received whilst in education. Susan wrote a report on the feedback from the students and this was then used to influence the plans for the next academic year.
