The aims are:
o For the students to have the opportunity to develop ‘transferable skills’; such as problem-solving, creativity, working a team, time management, presentation……..
o For the students to gain an insight into key business functions, including: design, marketing, finance and procurement.
o For students to gain an insight into different leadership styles
o For students to interact with specialists from local businesses
The Brief to the students will be: “You have been asked by a well know supermarket chain to design a new pizza and develop a marketing campaign for it to be launched on the market.” Teams will be required to:
o Decide who the target market is (value, mid-range, luxury)
o Decide on their ingredients
o Come up with a suitable brand name and logo
o Make a proto type of their packaging
o Assess the environmental impact of their pizza
o Develop an advertising strategy
o Complete a finance sheet
Each business specialist will give a 2-minute fun pitch at the start of the day, about the benefits of their business function and how it contributes to the success of businesses. Student will then discuss and decide on job roles within their team. The business specialists will then deliver a marketing, finance, procurement, management or design workshop. Students will attend the workshop linked to their job role.
Teams create and record a 2-minute pitch (using an i-pad) to sell the product, which will be assessed by the buying group (business specialists) at the end of the day
